The provision that the Senior Vice President would automatically become the President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has been abolished. Going forward, the President will be elected directly after Anjan Shrestha, the current Senior Vice President.
A special general assembly held on Tuesday made six amendments to the organization’s regulations. Among them, the term of the President has been set to two years, with five Vice Presidents and one Senior Vice President.
Currently serving Vice Presidents Hemraj Dhakal and Jyotsna Shrestha had demanded that they be elected directly after two terms. However, most members present at the assembly called for direct elections immediately after Anjan Shrestha, which was unanimously passed.
“The special general assembly held on Tuesday has decided that the President will be elected directly after Anjan Shrestha,” said committee member Shiv Prasad Ghimire. “The term of the directly elected President will now be only two years.”
This amendment changes the previous regulation that allowed the President to serve a three-year term.
The Senior Vice President will now be selected by the working committee. In terms of representation, two Vice Presidents will be elected from the districts and municipalities, one Vice President will represent the sectoral categories, and there will be one female Vice President.
“Since there are more representatives from the districts and municipalities in the federation, the statute has been amended to create two Vice Presidents from these areas,” said another committee member, Krishna Prasad Sharma. “The sectoral, associate, and women’s categories will each have one Vice President elected directly.”
