In the first month of the current fiscal year 2082/83, the Government of Nepal earned Rs 85.19 billion while spending Rs 46.30 billion, according to the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO).
The figures show that revenue collection reached 5.56% of the annual target, while expenditure accounted for 2.36% of the yearly allocation.
For this fiscal year, the government has set a revenue target of Rs 1.533 trillion. By the end of the first month:
- Tax revenue totaled Rs 80.67 billion (6.09% of the annual goal).
- Non-tax revenue stood at Rs 3.79 billion (2.46% of the target).
- Foreign grants amounted to Rs 420 million, with an additional Rs 309 million collected under other headings.
The government has set a target to raise Rs 1.325 trillion in tax revenue, Rs 154.41 billion in non-tax revenue, and Rs 53.44 billion in foreign grants this year.
On the expenditure side, of the Rs 1.964 trillion budget, spending in the first month stood at Rs 46.30 billion:
- Recurrent expenditure: Rs 18.47 billion (1.56% of Rs 1.180 trillion allocation).
- Capital expenditure: Only Rs 726 million (0.18% of Rs 407.88 billion allocation).
- Financial management: Rs 27.10 billion spent (7.22% of Rs 375.24 billion allocation), the largest share of total monthly spending.
The data reflects a strong start in revenue collection but sluggish capital expenditure, a trend that has often been highlighted as a structural weakness in Nepal’s fiscal performance.
