Govt collects Rs 515 billion in revenue, meets only 77 percent of the target for first half of current FY

According to the Ministry of Finance, the government had set a target of collecting Rs 668 billion in revenue by the end of Poush (mid-January). Dhaniram Sharma, spokesperson for the ministry, said that 77 percent of the revenue target had been collected in the first six months of the current fiscal year.

According to him, only Rs 134 billion in revenue has been collected in the month of Poush (mid- December to mid-January). The first installment of income tax (40 percent) is collected this month.

Therefore, the government had set a target of collecting Rs 188 billion in Poush. However, the collection has decreased by Rs 54 billion.

He said that the revenue collection has increased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the last fiscal year. Last year, till mid- December, the revenue was Rs 459 billion.

The government has set a target of revenue collection of Rs 1.42254 trillion in the current fiscal year. This year, the government had set a target with an estimate of a growth rate of more than 40 percent compared to last year. Spokesperson Sharma said that according to this, the revenue collection target will not be met this year as well.
