Kathmandu, October 11: The government of Nepal has decided to accept the grant amounting to over Rs 2.71 billion to be provided by the World Bank for effective implementation of the School Sector Development Programme (2016-2023). Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota made public the decisions at Singha Durbar yesterday made by the meeting of the Council of Ministers convened on October 4.

The SSDP came into effect since more than two years ago. The World Bank believes that the grant would help improve the quality, equitable access and efficiency of basic and secondary education for over 7 million students and 180,000 teachers and facilitators in over 30,000 community schools and centres in Nepal annually. Minister Banskota, who is also the Spokesperson of the government, shared that the meeting had decided to approve vacancies for 60 gazetted posts for seven different projects under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation for this current fiscal year.

Furthermore, it was shared that Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Supplies Ramchandra Dhakal would be entrusted with the responsibility of Executive Director at the Special Financial Authority until the candidate for the same was appointed. Moreover, the decision was made to promote Nepal Army’s Brigadier General Ashokraj Sigdel and Gokul Bhandari to Major General and five Colonels including Kumar Babu Thapa to Brigadier General. The meeting had also decided to allow the national forest to use for the up gradation of Nakkhukhola-Bhaisepati-Bungamati road.

The meeting also had decided to give permission to the Nepali delegation led by the Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to take part in the 7th meeting of the Joint Working Group under the d Nepal India Cooperation in Power Sector. RSS
