The National Transmission Grid Company Limited has initiated the process to construct the Bajhang–Banlek (West Seti) 400 kV transmission line, a key power infrastructure project designed to evacuate up to 2,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity from western Nepal.
The proposed transmission line will extend approximately 60 kilometres, connecting the Chainpur Substation in Bajhang district with Banlek in Shikhar Municipality–10 of Doti district. The project is expected to strengthen the national transmission network and facilitate the integration of future hydropower generation into the national grid.
The Grid Company has submitted an application to the Department of Electricity Development (DoED) seeking approval to construct the transmission line.
Under Clause (4) of the Electricity Act, 2049 BS, the DoED is responsible for granting approval for transmission line projects. If approved, the company plans to complete construction within five years from the date work begins.
As part of the approval process, the DoED has also issued a public notice inviting feedback, comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public regarding the proposed project.
The transmission line is expected to play a significant role in improving Nepal’s electricity transmission capacity, supporting the evacuation of power from hydropower projects in the West Seti region and strengthening the country’s expanding energy infrastructure.
