Hulas Steel Industries, based in Simara, Bara, has started repaying its long-overdue electricity arrears owed to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for power consumption through dedicated and trunk lines.
According to the NEA, the industry had accumulated a total premium arrear of Rs 141.2 million for using dedicated and trunk lines between February 2016 and May 2018. The NEA approved a repayment plan allowing the company to settle the dues in 28 monthly installments of Rs 5.043 million each. Hulas Steel paid its first installment on Friday, confirmed NEA Managing Director Manoj Silwal.
Similarly, Ashok Steel, another Simara-based company, also cleared its first installment. With total arrears amounting to Rs 175.8 million, the company has opted for the same 28-installment plan and has already paid Rs 6.3 million toward its outstanding dues.
The NEA has been intensifying its efforts to recover billions in unpaid premium tariffs from industries that used dedicated and trunk line facilities over the past decade.
