“Water from Melamchi has arrived at Sundarijal. Water distribution in Kathmandu will begin at 9:00 am on January 15,” Minister Yadav said on Saturday during an inspection visit to the Sundarijal-based Water Treatment Plant.

He claimed that the water from Sundarijal will be supplied in all seasons in Kathmandu adding that the water was brought to Sundarijal prior to the deadline. On the occasion, Minister Yadav directed the agencies and officials to fix broken pipeline and drinking water meter in different parts of the city.

Water is being channeled to Kathmandu again after repair and maintenance of the project which was damaged after flood and landslides in the project site in Sindhupalchowk district. Secretary at the Ministry of Drinking Water Suresh Acharya said that water supply would be ensured in Anamnagar, Minbhawan, Mahakalchaur, Rigani, Bhaktapur, Khumaltar, Balaju and Bansbari areas on January 15.

It will be gradually distributed in other parts of the city, he added. Preparations are underway to distribute Melamchi water to the folks in the city and around 170 million litres of water is supplied to Kathmandu every day.
