June 14 : In what can be termed as a historic step, the House of Representatives (HoR) has unanimously passed a bill for the second amendment to the constitution of Nepal. The bills seeks for amending the Schedule 3 of the statute for updating Nepal’s map in the national emblem by incorporating Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani. These territories have long been illicitly claimed by India as its own.
All political parties including the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) voted in favor of the amendment bill in the meeting of the federal parliament held yesterday in the capital.
Of the total 275 lawmakers in the lower house, all 258 lawmakers voted for endorsing it.The bill mow need to be endorsed by the National Assembly (NA) and authenticated by the President before coming into effect.
The government had registered it in the federal parliament on May 22 and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe had presented it in the parliament on May 24.
