Nepal-China foreign minister-level talks to focus on economic, development partnership

Kathmandu, September 8: The delegation-level talks taking place between Nepal and China on September 9 will be centered on economic and development partnership. The delegation-level talks would be led by the foreign ministers of both countries.

Talking briefly to RSS regarding the official visit of Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, to Nepal beginning tomorrow and the bilateral delegation-level talks, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said all matters of bilateral interest and concern besides entire gamut of Nepal-China relations would be discussed during the bilateral talks. He said the treaties and agreements reached between the two countries in the past and the China-supported projects in Nepal would be reviewed as well as their implementation emphasized.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Gyawali also stated that talks would be held in this visit of the Chinese foreign minister, taking place in a gap of four years, centering on the understanding reached for forming the Trans-Himalayan Multi-dimensional Connectivity Network between China and Nepal, construction of railway and mutual contacts as well as on transport and transit agreements among other topics.

Stating that Nepal’s attention has been drawn on how it could benefit from the physical and economic development achieved by China which is a reliable partner for the country’s development, Minister Gyawali informed that discussions would be held during the talks on various matters of bilateral interest, regional and international concerns as well.

Asked whether Foreign Minister Wang’s this visit could be seen as a preparatory to the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal, Minister Gyawali said Nepal has informed that this was the appropriate time for His Excellency Chinese President to visit Nepal. “The arrival of high-level leadership is an encouraging matter but the date for the visit has not been fixed,” he said and expressed the hope that Nepal’s close friend, the Chinese President, would be paying a visit at an appropriate time. #

President Xi had replied in the positive to the invite President Bidya Devi Bhandari had extended to her Chinese counterpart to visit Nepal during her state visit to China this year.
