Nepal has imported electric vehicles (EVs) worth almost Rs 20 billion in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, reflecting a growing shift toward cleaner mobility.
According to the Department of Customs (DoC), a total of 20,896 EVs entered the country during this period, generating Rs 11.92 billion in customs revenue.
The most imported category includes electric cars, jeeps, and vans with a power range of 51 to 100 kilowatts. A total of 4,414 vehicles in this segment were brought in, contributing Rs 6.94 billion to customs revenue. Their total customs value was Rs 10.94 billion.
Three-wheelers make up the highest number of EV imports. Nepal imported 7,982 units of three-wheeled EVs, with a customs value of approximately Rs 820 million. Among these, 4,947 units were unassembled, accounting for Rs 492.40 million in customs value.
Additionally, 742 EVs with a power range between 101 and 200 kilowatts were imported, with a total customs value of about Rs 2.56 billion.
These figures highlight Nepal’s increasing investment in electric mobility and the rising demand for diverse EV segments across the country.
