Kathmandu, May 5: Nepal and Oman have given the final touch to the draft of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the sending of Nepali workers to the Gulf nation.
A two-day meeting held between senior officials of the two countries (Nepal and Oman) in Kathmandu did so, according to my sources.
The two countries will ink the MoU after the finalized draft is approved by the Nepali cabinet.
The deal shall incorporate provisions like Nepal enjoying secure ‘zero-cost’ facility for Nepali workers to go to Oman for employment and employers in Oman requiring to bear all the costs of Nepali workers including visa fees and airfare. Similarly, it will cover workplace safety, insurance and measures to prevent labor exploitation.
It is learnt that Oman is ready to provide free access to legal remedy or justice for Nepali workers.
Oman is one of the most preferred destinations for Nepali migrant workers. In the last Fiscal Year 2017/18, 3,059 Nepali citizens in total have received a work permit to fly to Oman for job opportunities.
