Nepal has received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments totaling over Rs 57 billion in the first ten months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, according to data released by the Department of Industry.
From mid-July to mid-May, the government approved 576 FDI projects. In the month of Baishakh alone (mid-April to mid-May), FDI commitments amounted to Rs 467.2 million.
While the information technology (IT) sector attracted the highest number of project approvals, the tourism sector emerged as the top recipient in terms of investment value. The hotel and tourism industry led with 223 approved projects, drawing FDI commitments worth Rs 21.33 billion—representing 37.39 percent of the total committed investment.
In contrast, the IT sector secured the highest number of approvals, with 235 projects receiving FDI pledges amounting to Rs 1.31 billion.
These figures indicate growing investor interest in Nepal’s tourism and digital industries, despite broader economic challenges.
