Nepal’s import of electric vehicles (EVs) from Department of Customs (Nepal) data shows that EV imports from China far exceeded those from India in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.
Between mid-July 2025 and mid-February 2026, Nepal imported over 17,000 electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Among them, 14,475 units were manufactured in China, while 2,218 units came from India, indicating nearly seven times higher imports from China.
In the four-wheeler EV segment with 51–100 kW capacity, Nepal imported 3,402 vehicles in total. China dominated this category with 2,502 units, followed by 498 units from India and 401 units from Thailand.
During the same period, Nepal also brought in 493 electric vehicles with 101–200 kW capacity and seven vehicles with 201–300 kW capacity. The government generated more than NPR 10.5 billion in revenue from the import of four-wheeler electric vehicles.
