Nepal has imported gold worth Rs 16.50 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, according to data released by the Department of Customs on Thursday.
As of mid-March, Nepal has imported 1,188.89 kg of gold, amounting to Rs 14.37 billion. Additionally, 181 kg of gold jewelry worth Rs 2.09 billion has also been imported.
Compared to the same period last year, overall gold imports have declined. In the first eight months of the previous fiscal year, Nepal imported 1,901.86 kg of gold worth Rs 16.122 billion. However, the import of gold jewelry has increased, rising from 171 kg worth Rs 1.45 billion last year to 181 kg worth Rs 2.09 billion this year.
Meanwhile, silver imports have seen a notable rise. Nepal imported 33,404 kg of silver and silver jewelry in the first eight months of this fiscal year, up from 26,924 kg in the same period last year. The total value of silver imports now stands at Rs 4.62 billion.
