Nepal’s second economic census is scheduled to begin on March 15. The National Statistics Office announced that the nationwide census will continue until mid-July under the slogan “Measuring the Economy.” The schedule, logo, and slogan for the census were also made public on Monday. The first economic census was conducted in April 2019.
For the second census, 5,000 enumerators will be appointed. Data will be collected on economic activities, industrial production, the condition of industries, and employment.
The census aims to gather information from sectors such as industry, trade, business, services, cooperatives, and private and public institutions, including their number, type, investment, employment, production, and service delivery.
It will also provide insights into inflation, employment trends, labor demand, and future planning, helping the government in policy formulation.
Basic data will be collected from 18 sectors. Preparations for the census will be completed by mid-March. Trained enumerators and supervisors will be deployed in the field from April 15 to June 21.
Dr. Kamal Prasad Pokhrel, Chief Statistician at the National Statistics Office, said the census is crucial for understanding the status of economic units and will help the government plan future strategies. He added that the economic census will be conducted effectively using internationally developed modern methods, with support from experts from the Ministry of Finance and the National Planning Commission.
