June 18 : Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwor Pokharel has claimed that there is no any irregularity while procuring medical goods from China through the Nepal Army (NA).
Responding to the queries of parliamentarians during deliberation a meeting of the National Assembly on Wednesday (June 17), DPM Pokharel came with such a claim. “The government leveraged the human resources and public relations of the NA to procure medical appliances from the northern neighbour for control and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic. And, it did so in an efficient, effective and transparent manner.”
According to him, efforts are also underway to bring in more such appliances from India following the required procedures.
On a different note, DPM Pokharel said that legal provisions were put in place to make the NA an inclusive organization as per the Army Act (2006). According to him, the act has ensures at least 45 percent reservation out of which 20 per cent is reserved for women, 32 per cent for indigenous communities, 28 per cent for Madheshis, 15 per cent for the Dalits and 5 percent for remote regions.
