Over the past ten years, more than 14,500 electric vehicles (EVs) manufactured in China have been imported into Nepal through the Rasuwagadhi border point. However, a significant number of these vehicles remain parked in areas such as Timure, Ghattikhola, and Rasuwagadhi, as many importers have yet to complete the customs clearance process.
According to Rabindra Pyakurel, Information Officer at the Rasuwa Customs Office, customs procedures have been completed for 2,570 vehicles, which have already been transported to Kathmandu.
In addition to electric vehicles, the Rasuwagadhi entry point has seen imports of various other goods from China, including shoes, slippers, ready-made garments, rubber materials, electronic equipment, and agricultural products. The increasing volume of imports underscores Rasuwagadhi’s growing importance as a trade gateway, while the backlog of uncleared vehicles highlights logistical and administrative challenges in the customs process.
