A meeting of the PAC held on Monday also instructed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to make arrangements for opening fair-price shops at every local level. The committee also issued a directive to the government to submit a progress report within one month on whether or not the directives have been implemented.

PAC stated that it shall also carry out monitoring and evaluation whether the directives have been followed or not.

Likewise, the committee also issued a directive for establishing coordination with the bodies concerned to prevent and control the smuggling of all goods including sugar through the open border.

PAC also directed concerned authorities to carry out regular monitoring of the quality of goods and services as well as their market prices, to immediately take action against those involved in illegal activities, to prevent the illegal capital flow while importing various goods and to monitor and prevent the under-invoicing while importing  goods.

The parliamentary committee has also instructed the government to establish coordination for mandatorily operating at least one fair-price shop at every local level to provide relief to the consumers from black marketeering, syndication and exorbitant price hike, and to set up a mechanism required for monitoring and evaluating the condition of service delivery by these shops.
