The Privatization Committee has recommended that the Council of Ministers classify several underperforming and closed corporations for privatization. During a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, the committee identified the following companies for classification:
- Closed Corporations:
- Janakpur Cigarette Factory
- Nepal Metal Company
- Hetauda Textile Industry
- Biratnagar Jute Mill
- Butwal Yarn Factory
- Gorakhkali Rubber Industry
- Underperforming Corporations:

Following the Council’s classification, a study committee of experts will evaluate the assets and liabilities of these companies. Based on their findings, recommendations for the privatization process will be developed.
Notably, the closed corporations have been inactive for an extended period, while the cement factories have been operating at a loss and underperforming. The meeting included key stakeholders such as Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari, Chairman of the Federal Parliament Finance Committee Santosh Chalise, and others.
