June 28 : Reconstruction works of the heritage sites damaged by the 2015 earthquakes have continued even in the ongoing COVID-19-induced lockdown period. In today’s meeting of International Relations Committee under the House of Representatives on the work progress of the current fiscal year and action plan of the upcoming fiscal year of the Department of Archaeology, its Director General Damodar Gautam shared this information.
A total of 920 heritage sites of 31 districts were damaged by the quakes. Of them, the reconstruction works of 410 has completed, while such works are on to complete the remaining ones.
He stated that the Reconstruction Authority allocated more than Rs 1 billion for the reconstruction and protection of heritages while the government allocated Rs 380 million for the same. —–
