Kathmandu, April 3: Khumbu in Solukhumbu district, the gateway to Mt Everest, has been connected to the road network. Chief Minister of State 1, Sherdhan Rai, on Tuesday (April 2 ) inaugurated the way linking Selleri to Kharikhola of Khumbu Pasanglhamu-1 via Mapyadudhkoshi rural municipality. On the occasion, Chief Minister Rai expressed commitment that the state government would make an arrangement of necessary budget for the expansion of road from Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality to Chaurikharka rural municipality. He said that the construction of the road would help promote domestic tourism as well as increase the number of foreign tourists there. Earlier, domestic and foreign visitors were found stranded in Lukla for weeks due to bad weather at Tenzing Hillary Airport as there was no road to Khumbu. The Chief Minister also announced to declare the Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality as ‘Tourism rural municipality’ and rewarding it. The rural municipality was able to bring in 50,000 domestic and foreign tourists every year.
