Sajha Yatayat brings electric buses into operation

Lalitpur, October 23 : Sajha Yatayat has brought electric buses into operation from today.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the electric bus service by travelling in the electric bus from Pulchowk-based Sajha Yatayat premises to Singha Durbar.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli said that hydropower produced in the country would make positive impact in environment and public health.
He said, “It is necessary to lay emphasis on operation of electric buses during the shortage of petroleum products.” Thousands of four-wheel vehicles and more than 800,000 motorcycles are plying every day in Kathmandu Valley, added PM Oli.
PM further said that electric vehicles would be promoted in days ahead by coordinating with other bodies. The Nepal Electricity Authority would set up charging stations at 20 different places, he shared the information.
The Prime Minister said that the government was committed to increase standard and quality of public vehicles.
He said, “Participation of private sector is necessary in expansion of electric bus service”, and added that initiation of electric bus service was only a small initiative.
The electric buses, which will be operated in Lumbini, have been brought into operation in Kathmandu Valley for sometimes.
Prime Minister Oli stressed that science and technology should be used to make the human life easier and added the government has now a plan to take electric oven at every house.
Similarly, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Adhikari, said that construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport would be completed within next six months.
The electric buses have been brought into operation with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank. The electric buses are disabled-friendly.
