Auditor General Unable to Verify Rs 147.90 Billion in Government Spending

The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers’ Association has announced a price reduction effective from Monday.

Association President Binod Pokharel said the decline is due to increased domestic production and the inflow of eggs from India at the same time.

Under the revised support price, large eggs have been fixed at Rs 375 per crate (30 eggs), while medium eggs are priced at Rs 335 per crate. Previously, on Magh 22, large eggs were priced at Rs 435 per crate and medium eggs at Rs 405. Earlier, on Magh 11, prices had reached Rs 495 for large eggs and Rs 475 for medium eggs.

Egg prices had reached a record high in Mangsir. At that time, large eggs were sold at farm level for Rs 565 per crate, while medium eggs were priced at Rs 550.

According to Pokharel, the influx of Indian white eggs and increased production have prevented domestically produced eggs from securing a fair market price. He added that the association has been continuously urging government authorities to stop the import of Indian eggs.

The production cost of an egg stands at Rs 19.12 per piece, which translates to a production cost of Rs 574.06 per crate.

With prices falling again close to the production cost, farmers have become increasingly discouraged.
