Prakash Kumar Sanjel, spokesperson of the Ministry, informed that some 73 thousand metric tons of chemical fertilizer was already in store and that the process to import additional tons of fertilizer was already started, which will avoid any shortage.

“We have 73 thousand metric tons of chemical fertilizer in our store and additional 100 thousand metric tons will be procured within a month as the process has already been initiated. Therefore, the farmers will not have to face any hassle of shortage this season,” he said.

Previous records show that some 150 thousand metric tons of chemical fertilizer is needed for the paddy plantation season.

As the monsoon is likely to start within days and the farmers are preparing for planting the paddy, many farmers are wary of shortage of fertlisers at this time as in the past.

According to Sanjel, 2 lakhs 60 thousand metric ton including remaining reserve of previous year is sold out of 3 lakhs 3 thousand metric ton imported until 8 June of the fiscal year 2022/23.

20 thousand metric ton DPA fertilizer imported through Krishi Samagri Company is reaching to Visakhapatnam port and part of it has been reached in Birjung.

Salt Trading Corporation (STC) has imported 27 thousand metric ton urea fertilizer and is reached to Kolkata out of which part of it is already supplied to Nepal, Sanjel added.

He informed that 5 thousand metric ton potash which is imported by Krishi Samgri Company and 2500 metric potash which is imported by STC is reached in Visakhapatnam and once permit is taken from Department of Fertilizer, Government of India, it will soon be imported to Nepal.

20 thousand metric ton DPS fertilizer being imported by STC will be getting to Kolkata from China on 15 June.
