The Super Kabeli ‘A’ Hydropower Project has officially commenced power generation.
Developed by Snow Rivers Limited, this 13.5 MW capacity project is situated in Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-8, Taplejung district.
Electricity generated by the project is now integrated into the national grid through Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) 32-kVA Amarpur substation, located 31 kilometers from the Yamphudin powerhouse.
According to Meghnath Dhungana, the project’s public relations officer, power transmission to the national grid began after a successful one-week trial.
The construction of the project, which required an investment of NPR 2.6329 billion, started in December 2022.
With the addition of the Super Kabeli ‘A’ Project, Taplejung now hosts eight operational hydropower companies.
Among the prominent hydropower initiatives in the district, the 73-MW Middle Tamor Hydropower Project, developed by Sanima Hydro Company, stands out as the largest.
Other significant projects include the 25 MW Kabeli ‘B-1’ and the 10 MW Kabeli ‘B-1’ Cascade Project, both operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company.
Currently, over 18 hydropower projects are under construction in Taplejung, promising further expansion of power generation in the region once completed.
