Thai AirAsia has announced plans to resume its commercial flight operations at Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa, starting October 26 (Kartik 9). The airline will operate two weekly flights between Bangkok and Bhairahawa, restoring a route that was suspended in mid-March due to low passenger turnout.
According to Universal Tours and Travels, the official General Sales Agent (GSA) for Thai AirAsia in Nepal, ticket bookings for the round-trip flights have already opened, with fares set at approximately Rs 24,000.
“We had previously operated flights on this route, but the service was halted because of low demand,” a representative from the GSA stated. “We are hopeful that resuming operations from Kartik 9 will meet the growing interest in regional connectivity.”
The airline is expected to operate regular flights through Chaitra (mid-March), offering renewed international service from Nepal’s second international airport. This move marks a positive development for GBIA, which has faced underutilization challenges since its inauguration.
Thai AirAsia’s return signals a potential boost for both tourism and regional travel, and stakeholders are optimistic about stronger passenger turnout in the upcoming travel season.
