The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined two plastic manufacturing companies after detecting irregularities during inspections in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu.
Manjushree Plastic Industries, located in Changunarayan–2, Bhaktapur, was fined Rs 200,000, while Shree Polythene and Plastic Industries Pvt. Ltd. in Kathmandu was penalized Rs 50,000.
Officials said the action was taken under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, following on-site inspections at 17 companies across the two districts. Along with the fines, 15 other firms were issued directives to correct minor compliance shortcomings.
The department noted that such inspections are part of ongoing efforts—carried out in coordination with local governments and consumer rights organizations—to ensure that businesses comply with consumer protection standards and operate responsibly.
