Nepal exported about 275 tonnes of Chhurpi worth Rs 485.2 million through the Mechi Customs Office in Kakarbhitta, Jhapa, during the first five months of the current fiscal year 2025/26.
According to customs data, a total of 275,246 kilograms of Chhurpi were exported between mid-July and mid-December. During the same period last fiscal year, exports totaled 217,068 kilograms valued at Rs 367.6 million, showing a significant increase in both volume and revenue.
Kakarbhitta remains the country’s main export gateway for domestically produced Chhurpi, with the product ranking fourth among the top ten export items processed through the customs office.
Chhurpi is produced mainly in Nepal’s hilly and mountainous regions, with Koshi Province accounting for around 80 percent of total national output, according to the Nepal Chhurpi Producers Association. The product is exported largely to Europe and the United States, where it is used as a natural chew for dogs and cats.
Producers say stronger policy support and promotion could further enhance Chhurpi’s contribution to Nepal’s export sector.
