London, January 6: The Nepali Embassy in the United Kingdom (UK) has started the campaign of the Visit Nepal Year (VNY) 2020 here on Sunday (Jan 5).

The very campaign, which was officially inaugurated in Nepal on January 1, aims to attract at least 2 million foreign tourists in the country throughout this year. Nepali Ambassador to the UK Dr. Durga Bahadur Subedi inaugurated the campaign in the UK amid a program.

Nepali envoy Subedi shared that there were over 150,000 Nepalis residing in the UK and if each Nepali could inspire at least one ‘Briton’ to visit Nepal, Nepal could receive at least 150,000, British visitors. Urging all the Nepalis in the UK to visit Nepal in 2020 with their families and inspire their British friends to consider taking up Nepal as their ‘holiday’ destination for 2020, Subedi said that in a bid to promote the campaign, the Embassy here would provide promotional posters to the Nepali restaurants here.

Likewise, Deputy Chief of the Mission at the Embassy of Nepal in London Sharad Raj Aran added that the Visit Nepal 2020’s posters were posted in as many as 20 double-decker buses in London in coordination of the Nepal Tourism Board. Furthermore, he said that promotional events were organized in other cities in the UK such as Manchester.

Similarly, the Non-Resident Nepali Association, UK’s President Poonam Gurung urged all the organizations in the UK to collaborate to make this campaign a success. During today’s event, the office-bearers of the 22 various committees formed by the Nepali Embassy last year meant to promote the Visit Nepal Year 2020 had presented their respective plans and programs on how to send more and more British tourists to Nepal during 2020.
