India has banned wheat exports following the price hike.
Wheat exports have been halted by India with immediate effect as prices continue to rise.
According to the Navbharat Times, India has placed wheat in the restricted category. India, its neighbors and developing nations have halted wheat export, citing food security threats.
Shipments already permitted will not be stopped. A statement from India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade said that the price of wheat has skyrocketed and food security in India and neighboring countries is at stake.
The international price of wheat is rising by 40 percent. India is the world’s second-largest wheat producer.
