In the interaction attended by people’s representatives, local units’ staffers and media persons, the officials shared that the District Administration Offices will put 164 booths in 15 local units to forward the works relating to this. Chief District Officer (CDO) in Jhapa, Udaya Bahadur Rana Magar, said a number of teams will be deployed in all local units from the end of January to register the personal and biometric data of the people having obtained the Nepali citizenship ID cards and distribute them thereafter.

The distribution of National ID Card had commenced in Jhapa from the beginning of the current fiscal year (mid-July 2019) and so far only 11,000 persons had registered their personal and biometric data while only 1,000 of them had acquired the ID card so far, according to CDO Magar.

Director of the DoVR Chomendra Neupane briefed the ward chiefs attending the interactions about the ways to obtain the personal details and shed light on how the national ID card would facilitate to keep the data of the citizen and facilitate them in obtaining state facilities.

Furthermore, Neupane said that the Card would also help the government agencies in curbing fraudulent activities when it comes to availing state-facilities. According to him, the central office in Kathmandu is printing some 500 national ID cards per hour while the Department aims to increase further. Similarly, District Coordination Committee, Jhapa’s coordination Somnath Portal called for coordination among the local units’ chairs, vice-chair and ward chairs in Jhapa to make the distribution of national ID card a success in the district within the stipulated time.
