Nepal’s spring mountaineering season has officially concluded, with a total of 1,195 domestic and foreign climbers obtaining permits to scale 31 peaks, including Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
According to the Department of Tourism, 495 climbers from 56 countries secured permits to climb Mount Everest. The group comprised 390 men and 105 women, including 44 Nepali climbers.
Over 1,000 Support Staff Reached the Summit
In addition to the permit holders, more than 1,000 guides and support personnel successfully accompanied climbers to the summit during the season, highlighting the crucial role played by Nepal’s mountaineering workforce.
China Tops List of Everest Climbers
China recorded the highest number of Everest permit holders with 159 climbers, followed by:
- The United States – 152 climbers;
- India – 101 climbers;
- Germany – 75 climbers;
- The United Kingdom – 74 climbers; and
- Russia – 70 climbers.
Sherpas Set New World Records
Veteran Nepali mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa extended his own world record by successfully summiting Everest for the 32nd time.
Among women climbers, Lhakpa Sherpa established a new record with her 11th successful ascent of Mount Everest, further strengthening her status as the woman with the most Everest summits.
Government Collects Rs 1.26 Billion in Royalties
The government earned a total of Rs 1.26 billion in mountaineering royalties during the spring climbing season, with Mount Everest accounting for the largest share of the revenue.
The successful conclusion of the season underscores Nepal’s position as a premier global mountaineering destination and highlights the continued economic importance of adventure tourism to the country’s economy.
