The Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) has directed all insurance companies to implement a digital insurance claims tracking system within the next three months, marking a major step toward modernizing Nepal’s insurance sector.
According to the regulator, the new platform is designed to make the claims settlement process more transparent, accountable, efficient, and technology-driven while enabling policyholders to monitor the status of their claims in real time.
Under the proposed system, every stage of the claims process—from claim registration and document submission to surveyor assessment, management approval, and final claim payment—will be digitally tracked. The NIA believes the platform will improve transparency, reduce unnecessary delays, strengthen accountability, and significantly enhance customer service.
The digital tracking system will be mandatory for all licensed life, non-life, and microinsurance companies operating in Nepal.
Insurance industry officials say the initiative is expected to streamline claims management, improve operational efficiency, and increase public confidence in the insurance sector. Digital monitoring will also help regulators oversee insurers’ performance more effectively while ensuring policyholders receive timely updates on their claims.
The NIA’s move aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which aims to expand technology-driven public and financial services across the country. Once implemented, the system is expected to improve service delivery, minimize processing delays, and create a more transparent and customer-friendly insurance ecosystem in Nepal.
