Kathmandu: The government has intensified fertilizer supplies during the peak paddy plantation season, with 1,250 metric tons of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer arriving in Nepal on Monday through the Birgunj border point.
According to the Agricultural Inputs Company Limited (AICL), the shipment is part of a 30,000-metric-ton DAP consignment procured through an international competitive bidding process.
The consignment reached Kolkata Port, India, on July 10, and the first batch was dispatched to Nepal by rail on Shrawan 1 before arriving in the country on Monday.
Remaining Consignments to Arrive in Phases
The AICL said packaging work for the remaining DAP fertilizer is continuing at Kolkata Port. Following completion of the bagging process, additional consignments have begun moving toward Birgunj by rail and will enter Nepal in phases over the coming weeks.
Urea Shipment Ready for Transport
The company also confirmed that another 30,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer has reached Kolkata Port.
The urea shipment is currently undergoing unloading and packaging. The first railway rake carrying the fertilizer is scheduled to begin its journey to Birgunj from Monday, with the remaining quantity to follow in phases.
Government Accelerates Fertilizer Imports
The government said it has expedited the import and distribution of both DAP and urea fertilizers to prevent shortages during the ongoing rice transplantation season.
Ensuring a timely supply of fertilizers remains a priority as paddy cultivation enters its busiest period. Officials said the phased arrival of fertilizer consignments is expected to help meet farmers’ demand and support uninterrupted paddy planting across the country.
