Domestic airlines have agreed to keep airfares below the government-mandated maximum until the road network is fully operational, following the guidance of Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Pandey.
Under Minister Pandey’s directive, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) will enforce the press release from September 29, ensuring that airlines do not charge higher fares while road transport remains disrupted due to recent floods and landslides.
Initially, the airlines planned to offer reduced fares for just three days, but they have now extended this initiative until the road services are restored. The press release emphasizes that airlines must adhere to this fare reduction in light of the ongoing transportation challenges caused by severe weather conditions.
As of September 29, airlines had agreed to lower their fares in response to Minister Pandey’s call, acknowledging the significant impact of continuous rainfall, floods, and landslides on the country’s road infrastructure.
