Kathmandu, October 23 : The government has directed all stakeholders concerned to implement the clean feed system as per the Advertisement (Regulation) Act, 2076 and Regulation, 2077 from tomorrow.
Issuing a press release on Thursday (October 22), the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology issued such an instruction by reminding that the advertisement board has already been formed to implement the very system from the given date. It also warned of legal action if any related stakeholder fail to comply with its direction.
After the system is implemented, the paid foreign television channels will be barred from broadcasting the advertisements of foreign brands in the Nepali skies.
According to the Advertising Association Nepal (AAN), such prohibition will help double the annual turnover of the advertising industry from the current Rs 12 billion to Rs 24 billion in the next two years.
“With such a phenomenal growth in the industry, the yearly transactions of the local media houses and other organizations related to it could also surge by around 50 to 80 percent,” says Nirmal Raj Poudel, former president, AAN.
“By giving a whole new boost to the growth country’s advertising, media and other related industries, the clean feed system might eventually help accelerate the country’s socio-economic development.”
He even argues that the idea of the very system can also be strategically leveraged to help address the current economic anomalies triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
