Domestic air travel in Nepal has become more expensive after the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) increased the price of aviation fuel by Rs. 20 per litre, prompting airlines to raise fuel surcharges on flights across the country.
The revised fares came into effect on Monday, with airline operators adjusting ticket prices in line with the higher fuel costs. The move reverses a fare reduction introduced in late June, when aviation fuel prices were cut by Rs. 40 per litre.
According to the Airlines Operators Association, passengers travelling to Dhangadhi will face the largest increase, with the fuel surcharge rising by Rs. 880 per ticket. Other major increases include Rs. 690 for Surkhet, Rs. 688 for mountain flights, Rs. 654 for Nepalgunj, Rs. 560 for Bhadrapur, Rs. 478 for Biratnagar and Rs. 410 for Bhairahawa.
Shorter domestic routes have also seen fare adjustments. Fuel surcharges have increased by Rs. 314 for Pokhara, Rs. 258 for Janakpur, Rs. 212 for Bharatpur and Rs. 183 for Simara, the smallest increase among major destinations.
Following the revision, ticket prices from Kathmandu now range between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 10,000 for Dhangadhi, Rs. 1,800–7,400 for Nepalgunj, and Rs. 1,700–6,900 for Bhadrapur. Fares to other destinations have also been revised accordingly.
Airlines said total ticket prices include the base fare, fuel surcharge, airport service charge and value-added tax (VAT). The latest adjustment reflects the industry’s practice of revising fuel surcharges whenever aviation fuel prices change.
