The Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Nepal, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, emphasized the importance of expanding the scope of social security in the country. Speaking at an event marking the 7th Social Security Day, organized by the General Federation of Nepali Trade Unions (GEFONT) in Kathmandu, he highlighted the historical role of the CPN (UML) in conceptualizing and implementing social security in Nepal.
Minister Paudel reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the contribution-based social security scheme, which he described as a pioneering and unique initiative aimed at ensuring the welfare of the working population. He stated that such schemes not only fulfill the state’s responsibility toward its citizens but also foster confidence and optimism among workers regarding their future.
He concluded by pledging to make the social security program more effective and impactful, emphasizing its potential to provide stability and assurance to Nepali workers.
