The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has unveiled the first ‘Industrial Status Report’ (ISR)’.
The report to be launched quarterly saw its first edition, said National Planning Commission’s Vice-President Dr Bishwa Poudel. The report incorporates the situation prevailing the production sector, service sector, agriculture and energy sector in the first quarter of the last fiscal year.
These industries run at 64.8 percent of their total capacity during this period, the report stated. Although the industries had recorded an 8 percent rise in their income in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2021/22 against the same period last year, the income had decreased by 4.7 percent in the first quarter of 2019/20, according to the report.
The report said that the COVID-19 had affected the optimization of the capacity of the industries and the situation was improving. Of the industries surveyed, 83 percent of industrialists said that they were ready for new investments. Till the first quarter, 69.7 percent of industries were using generators for energy to run their industries.
Vice-President of the Commission Dr Poudel said that it had reflected the real situation of the industries in the country.
He urged for continuity of the report. Likewise, CNI’s President Bishnu Kumar Agrawal said that the document would show that how the private sector was working as a think tank agency. The research cell of the CNI prepared the document which would be useful for the government for policy-making and intervention at the policy level.
