The government has approved a comprehensive plan to address the ongoing electricity tariff dispute with industries that have failed to settle outstanding bills for power consumed through dedicated feeders and trunk lines.
To manage the resolution process, a dedicated committee has been established under the leadership of former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation has been authorized to implement the proposed solution.
In a Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Sunday, the government officially approved the release of the report submitted by the Inquiry Commission on May 5. The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation has been tasked with making the report public. Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, who also serves as the government’s spokesperson, announced the decision.
Electricity Reconnection for Affected Industries
Acknowledging the severe impact on industries, production, revenue, and employment caused by the suspension of electricity supply, the Cabinet decided that the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation would facilitate the reconnection of electricity lines to affected industries within 24 hours. This measure aims to mitigate the economic disruptions resulting from the power cuts.
Overdue Bill Recovery Within 15 Days
In addition, the government has set a 15-day deadline for recovering overdue electricity bills from industries using dedicated feeders and trunk lines. The recovery will be based on the consumption records, and the Ministry of Energy will take necessary steps to ensure timely payments.
