Government Ensures Adequate Supply of Chemical Fertilizers for Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has stated that the management of chemical fertilizers is running smoothly and sufficient attention has been paid to ensure no complaints arise.

At present, there is a stock of 28,824 metric tons of chemical fertilizers, while 140,504 metric tons are in transit. According to the Ministry, these quantities are available with Salt Trading Corporation and Agricultural Inputs Company Limited (AICL), and arrangements have been made for necessary sales and distribution.

The Ministry informed that special efforts are being made to ensure the smooth availability of fertilizers during the cropping season. Currently, AICL holds a total stock of 29,111 metric tons of fertilizers — including 16,539 MT of urea, 7,653 MT of DAP, and 4,915 MT of potash.

Similarly, Salt Trading Corporation has a stock of 13,712 metric tons, including 10,984 MT of urea, 942 MT of DAP, and 1,785 MT of potash.

For the current fiscal year, the Ministry aims to manage 600,000 metric tons of fertilizers, with a budget allocation of NPR 28.82 billion. So far, tenders have already been invited for the procurement of 300,000 metric tons.

Of the fertilizers currently in transit (140,504 MT), 78,349 MT belong to AICL and 62,154 MT to Salt Trading Corporation. In addition, 30,983 metric tons of fertilizers remain in stock from the last fiscal year, including 19,923 MT of urea, 10,448 MT of DAP, and 611 MT of potash.

According to Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari, the government has taken the necessary initiatives to ensure easy access to fertilizers for farmers.
