The government has revoked its earlier decision to increase the health examination fee for Nepali workers going abroad for foreign employment and has fixed the charge at Rs 6,500 per person following widespread criticism.
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) scrapped the previous provision, reducing the fee by Rs 3,000. On March 21, 2025, former Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari had revised the fee through a ministerial decision, setting it at Rs 9,500 for health check-up packages.
Citing the need to improve service quality, the government had earlier made it mandatory for Nepali migrant workers to undergo 34 types of health tests, which led to the increase in fees.
However, the newly appointed Labour Minister, Rajendra Singh Bhandari, has reversed the decision taken by the previous government, according to MoLESS.
