Insurance Companies Pay Nearly Rs 2.8 Billion in Claims from Gen-Z Protest Damages

Insurance companies have so far paid nearly Rs 2.79 billion in claims related to damages caused during the Gen-Z protests. According to data from the Nepal Insurance Authority, this amount includes advance payments made by insurers up to Kartik 9.

Siddhartha Premier Insurance has paid the highest amount at Rs 1.28 billion. Shikhar Insurance has paid Rs 583.2 million, IGI Prudential Rs 314.1 million, Himalayan Everest Insurance Rs 256 million, and Neco Insurance Rs 98 million.

Similarly, Sagarmatha Lumbini has paid Rs 72.4 million, Sanima GIC Rs 71.4 million, Nepal Insurance Rs 61.1 million, and NLG Insurance Rs 21.5 million.

A total of Rs 23.23 billion worth of claims have been registered due to damages during the Gen-Z movement. The Authority reports that 3,187 claims have been filed with 14 non-life and 4 micro non-life insurance companies.

Siddhartha Insurance has received the highest claim amount, totaling Rs 5.49 billion, followed by The Oriental Insurance with Rs 5.24 billion, IGI Prudential with Rs 2.79 billion, and Shikhar Insurance with Rs 2.41 billion.

The highest number of claims were filed under property insurance, amounting to Rs 19 billion, out of which companies have paid Rs 2.27 billion so far. Motor insurance claims reached Rs 3.44 billion, with payments of Rs 477.7 million made to date.

Bagmati Province has reported the highest claim amount, with claims worth Rs 17.61 billion, of which insurers have paid Rs 2.15 billion. Koshi Province received claims worth Rs 2.32 billion, Gandaki Rs 1.69 billion, Madhesh Rs 700 million, Lumbini Rs 470 million, Sudurpaschim Rs 320 million, and Karnali Rs 99.9 million.
