Insurance companies in Nepal have received claims worth Rs 22.25 billion for damages caused during the nationwide Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).
Bagmati Province recorded the highest volume of claims, with 1,343 applications amounting to Rs 17.97 billion, reflecting the heavy concentration of businesses and infrastructure in the region.
In total, 18 insurance companies, including micro-insurers, have received 2,478 claims applications so far. The NIA noted that the damages largely stemmed from vandalism, arson, and destruction of property during the protests.
Officials cautioned that the final figure could climb higher, as assessments of the physical damage are still ongoing.
Among the firms, Oriental Insurance Company received claims worth Rs 5.22 billion, while Siddhartha Insurance Company topped the list at Rs 5.8 billion.
The claims cover a wide range of sectors, including property, vehicles, engineering projects, and contractor risk insurance.
A provincial breakdown shows 322 claims from Koshi, 246 from Madhes, 184 from Gandaki, 202 from Lumbini, 22 from Karnali, and 159 from Sudurpaschim.
The NIA emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure timely assessment and settlement of legitimate claims.
