Kathmandu, January 12: Main opposition Nepali Congress has drawn the attention of the government to an Indian ban on the imports of refined palm oil from Nepal, asking it to initiate diplomatic measures for an alternative.
Investments of industrialists and jobs in the country have been put at risk following such ban on the part of India, read a statement recently issued by Bal Krishna Khand, chief whip of the NC Parliamentary Party on Saturday, adding,” The government should now find ways export refined palm oil to other countries rather than only India.
Nepal is estimated to have exported palm oil worth Rs 10.3 billion in the last fiscal year. The very product is edible vegetable oil extracted from the fruit of oil palm trees largely grown in Indonesia and Malaysia. It is in great demand globally as it is used in many packaged products from doughnuts and chocolates to shampoo, lipsticks, and toothpaste. RSS
