Four different agreements have been signed between Nepal and India regarding mutual cooperation and collaboration including expansion of energy, petroleum products and railway service mechanism.

After the meeting between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, agreements were signed for Nepal to officially participate in the international solar energy partnership, providing Indian technical support to Nepal’s railway service sector, providing assistance to petroleum sector and exchanging experts between Nepal Oil Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation.

Prime Ministers of both countries jointly launched the Kurtha-Jaynagar cross-border rail link as well as launched the Rupay Card of India for use in Nepal. Similarly, PM Deuba and his Indian counterpart also jointly inaugurated 132-KV Solu Corridor Transmission Line yesterday. The transmission line was constructed in Nepal with Rs 3.20 billion loan assistance from India.

At a news conference organized following the signing of the agreements, PM Deuba said that a fruitful discussion was held on various aspects of Nepal-India relations. Saying Nepal’s relations with India are very crucial, he lauded the progress achieved by India under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Praising the effective management carried out by India to control the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Deuba extended gratitude to India for its support of Nepal’s battle against COVID-19. He further said RuPay, multinational financial services, and payment service system, that comes into effect from yesterday has added a new chapter to Nepal’s financial sector.
