Kathmandu, November 27: The two-day meeting between Nepal and India on revising the much-talked-about Transit Treaty has begun on Thursday (Nov 26).
In the first day of the meeting, Indian officials showed positive gestures towards facilitating Nepal to conduct third country trade, says Secretary at Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Nabaraj Dhakal, who is leading the Nepali delegation.
According to him, the Indian side is willing to allow the Nepali side to use its three inland waterways-Calcutta-Kalughat-Raxaul, Calcutta-Sahibgunj-Biratnagar, and Kolkata-Varanashi-Sunauli- for international trade.
Also, the meeting will also discuss the use of Haldiya-Sahibganj-Kalugat inland waterways as well as Mundra and Dhamara Seaports of India by Nepal.
The issue of Electric Cargo Surveillance system between the two countries will also be surfaced in the meeting. The Nepali delegation is led by Dhakal while the Indian side is led by Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, a joint secretary at the Department of Commerce of India.
