Nepal Telecom has reported a sharp 48.6 percent decline in net profit for the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, with earnings falling to Rs 2.84 billion from Rs 5.53 billion during the same period last year.
The profit slump is primarily attributed to a significant drop in total revenue, particularly in interest income. The company, which had previously earned Rs 5.19 billion from interest on deposits, saw this figure plunge by 46 percent to Rs 2.80 billion this year.
While revenue from customer services remained relatively steady—slightly decreasing from Rs 25.48 billion to Rs 25.31 billion—the substantial loss in interest income dragged total revenue down to Rs 28.43 billion from Rs 31.20 billion last year.
The company’s profitability metrics have also taken a hit. Annual earnings per share (EPS) dropped to Rs 21.05 from Rs 41 in the previous year.
Despite the decline in profit, Nepal Telecom remains financially strong with a paid-up capital of Rs 18 billion and a robust reserve fund of Rs 72.70 billion. Its net worth per share currently stands at Rs 503.93.
