Kathmandu, May 11: Department of Railways of Nepal and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited have signed a contract agreement vis-a-vis the supply of trains to Nepal Railways in the capital. After this contract agreement, Nepal will acquire two train sets from India.
It was signed at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transportation in the presence of high-level officials from Nepal and India on Friday (May 10). The cabinet has already agreed to release a total amount of Rs 850 million to buy the trains.
As per the deal, the KRCL will supply two 1600 HP DEMU Train sets to the Department of Railways of Nepal for operating the railroad linking Jayanagar in India and Kurtha in Nepal. One of such sets will be provided to Nepal within three months. It will be operated along the 34-km Jayanagar-Kurtha railroad.
It is learnt that each train set features one driving power car, three trailer cars with one air-conditioned along with one driving trailer car with standardized accessories. They are manufactured by the integrated Coach Factory located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
