Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 101 billion in the first five months of the fiscal year 2024/25, contributing Rs 41 billion in revenue to the government.
This marks a slight decline compared to the same period last year when imports totaled Rs 111.7 billion. While the import of petrol, aviation fuel, and liquefied petroleum (LP) gas has risen, diesel imports have decreased.
According to the Department of Customs, petrol imports increased by 8.6%, reaching 306,229 kiloliters worth Rs 26.45 billion during the five-month period.
Similarly, aviation fuel imports rose by 12.76%, with 89,545 kiloliters imported compared to 78,112 kiloliters in the same period last year.
LP gas imports saw a modest 1.6% increase, totaling 217.7 million kilograms valued at Rs 24.22 billion, up from 214.2 million kilograms last year.
In contrast, diesel imports dropped by 3.6%. This year, 472,807 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 42.17 billion were imported, compared to 489,936 kiloliters in the same period last year.
Notably, the spending on petrol imports decreased slightly. As of Mangsir, Rs 26.45 billion was spent on petrol imports, down from Rs 28.55 billion in the previous year.
